Busy Week

Some weeks are just busier than others,
and more fun too!
I've made progress on my Blue and White Quilt.

Most of my week was spent in South Carolina
with my family celebrating my mom's 75th birthday.
We had so much fun!
A giggle fest for sure.

The Little Man got his superman cape,
and was whizzing around the room.

The other littles got lots of beach time.
It was just beautiful.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the day with
Bambi Shapiro and her side kick, Miss Cutie Pie.
We went to the sculpture garden at Pepsico.
I had never been and it was beautiful.

Some of my faves . . .

All in all a great week!
Busy is better!
Hope you had a fun week too.

Blue and White Quilt

Back in March, my friend Kate gave me a yummy
fat quarter pack of Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

I have been fondling it for months,
and have just jumped in and cut them up!

I decided to make sixteen patch blocks
to show off these great fabrics.

I cut the fat quarters into 3.5 inch strips and sewed four together,
alternating them.

Then I cut that piece into 3.5 inch strips.

By flipping the alternating rows,
you get a quick and easy block.

I made sure that I pressed the seams in one direction,
so when you flip and join,
they match up perfectly.

I have about twenty more to make and then I'll have a cute top!

This quilt is going to be a wedding present.
If you can believe it,
I was a girl scout leader a million years ago,
and one of my girl scouts got married last week.
Man that makes me feel so old!
How could this be when I'm only about 28 myself?
Hehehe.  Just kidding.

Flea Market

This kid wanted to go to The Elephant Trunk Flea Market
for her birthday jaunt.
So we picked up Gidget and off we went.
It's always a fun outing, although today was HOT!
These lovely sun bathing dolls greeted us at the entrance.
Fun and creepy at the same time.

 A pile of action figures.

The kid browsing.

White glassware.

Children's tractors.

A bongo drum.

A view up the aisle

A baby carriage with a mexican hat!

Flamingoes, that color pink always gets my attention.

A unicycle.

Gidget looking at trunks.

This trunk had beautiful initials on the top.

A mermaid!!

They also had a farm stand.

The kid bought a sewing box.

Gidget bought some fabric with monkeys on it.

I bought a fabulous quilt top that just needs a bit of repair
before quilting it.  It's got great colors and fabric.
I think I have the perfect vintage bed sheet for the back.
Maybe I'll try practicing my free motion quilting on this one.

On another note. . . .
This weeks sewing was making a superman cape
for my nephew, the little man.
I am going to see him in a week!
I'm not used to sewing with this kind of material,
it ain't easy!

So Happy Birthday Kid!
Fun day, I hope you all had a fun day too!

Sewing with friends

I had a real treat Friday!
My friend David came up from the city to sew with me.
Well, he sewed, I mostly giggled.

Here is the piece he is working on  now.
It's a charm quilt in a brick setting.

Here he is at the kid's sewing machine,
which I set up for company!
Haha.
We had a ball I must say.

I am making slow progress on my string quilt.
But I love it.  Slow and steady wins the race!

David also brought me a bag of goodies.
I had to break this out right away.
A scalp conditioner.
It's silver on the inside.

I think I might have to think of a Halloween costume
centered around this.  Haha.
Sewing with friends, nothing better!

I haven't been slacking off . . . . really I haven't!

I know I haven't been posting, and just that's because
I don't really have much fun stuff to show yet.

I did finish my last color challenge blocks today.
And thank goodness just in time, I ran out of the blue background fabric!
Now to start working on my settings,
I have some fun ideas, let's see if they transfer to the sewing.

I have also been working on a quilt that's a secret.
I have been working on it since January and am very pleased,
but I can't show it yet . . .  Cheeky of me right?
I spent the better part of this week picking all the paper out of the back.

And I have been chopping up scraps for my string quilt.
Lots of little pieces!  Yeah!
Now I can really get back to my sewing machine.
Just pick and sew.

What have you been working on this week??

A bit of sewing

There has been a bit of sewing going on around here.
Just a bit.

I started a new string quilt.
This is the first block.  I will make all the centers different black and whites.
I live B&W with brights!
But you knew that already.  Hehehe.

I als caught up on my color challenge blocks.
Thank goodness!  The next color is reveled tomorrow!

Here up Aqua and Maroon.

Here are my blocks so far, falling off my very small design board.

These have been really fun to make.  I have some great ideas for
how to put it together, but I still have to work them out!
Check out all the other blocks over at 15 mins Play!

Ella's Quilt

This week I decided to join Amy's

I wanted to make sure I finished Ella's baby quilt,
and this was a good way to insure I did it!
I love the colors on this quilt, very bright and girlie.
You can see how it started here.

I did very organic channel quilting.
It's about every half inch, I used the side of my walking foot
as a guide.

I saw this fence at the beach the other day and knew it had to
be one of my new photo venues!

Here is the back with her name.

Sewing on the binding in the comfort of AC.

Another beachy shot.

And I couldn't resist this photo of all the kayaks.
LOVE those colors.

So thanks so much to Amy for throwing down the gauntlet,
and getting me to finish this quilt!
Now it's all ready for baby Ella to use.
