Sewing Sunday . . .

So does absence make the heart grow fonder?
I certainly think so and hope so.
My beloved sewing machine was away for five days. Hehe.
Yes I missed her.  Luckily she didn't need as much surgery as
I thought she would . . .
Here is the pile of triangles I am working on for a wedding quilt
for my cousin.

My lovely Bernina back on her pedestal . . . um table.

I was trying out layouts for this new quilt . .
I was going to go with a traditional 1,000 pyramids layout . . .

But decided to go all scrappy on it instead.
I am loving the look.
Sorry about the photo, inside at night is never a good one.

I dragged out my hexies while I was without her (the sewing machine!). . .
I didn't get very far.
I think I might have to take this on vacation with me this summer.
It always gets pushed to the back burner.
Do you have projects like that?

on another note . . .
My Mom was in town for a quick visit this week.
The kid & I got to spend some time with her.

Mom & I used to be the same height.
I was teasing her that she is shrinking.
That is going to bite me in the bum one day I'm sure!
Hope you had a good weekend,
and remember to kiss the ones you love!

A Sad Day . . .

My weekend was spent here . . .

. . . .  because my beloved sewing machine is headed to the hospital.
For a week!  I ran her ragged . . .
I guess every one needs a vacation!

Happy Father's Day . . .

We finally had two days in a row of sunshine this weekend.
A fitting tribute to all the fathers out there.

I spent a good portion of the day cutting fabric for two new quilts.
I am starting with strips and then cutting those into triangles.

The second pile is for a class I'm taking in July,
so you'll have to wait on learning more about that one.

It is quite hard on the feet and back
to stand for four or five hours cutting.
Does this mean I am old?? Haha, I am.

Before I tortured myself at the cutting board,
I took a nice long walk.
I came around a corner and found this lovely doe
about ten feet away from me.
She was so serene, not skittish at all.
Even let me slowly take a picture.
Very cool.

I also went to the car show at the park near me.
This Thunderbird was my fave.

They have the car show each year on Father's Day,
and this was my first time walking through.

Here is a picture of my Dad with the kid when she was three.

And me and my Dad when I was six.
My first ballet recital.

I remember that day like it was yesterday,
I can still feel his arms around me.
I wish he was still here with us.
He was an amazing man and a very fun Dad.
Happy Father's Day to all!

Sweat Shop Sunday . . . .

So the kid needed to work on this quilt,
which is a graduation present  . . .
We've all been there!
It won't make the "deadline" but it will make the college departure.
A sweat shop was in order!

She did get all the blocks finished . . .
The borders will help bring it to the right size.

I worked on the kid's beach quilt repairs . . .

I am pebble quilting the dark blue sashing . .
Still deciding on how to do the rest . . .

Then is was off to the beach front for some fun time with the ladies . . .
And they had mermaid swizzle sticks!!

After that, a little quiet time at my beach reading a book
and talking to a friend . . .

What a great way to end the day!
Hope you did something great today too.

So where have I been, you ask?

Well, I certainly haven't been sewing very much!
I have been traveling a bit, working alot,
going out with friends . . .

And ignoring my sewing room.
It's that time of year I guess, the weather gets nice and all you want
to do it be outside.

I have been working on this little thing.
It's 12" x 6.5"
I started fooling around with it a few months ago
and it has been up on my design wall languishing.

I paper pieced all the sections
and then pieced those together.

Once I actually focused on it,
it only took me a couple of hours.

TaDa!
Now what?  Not sure.
Maybe a mug rug so I'm ready
the next time I need a gifty.

On another note . . .
yesterday was out last Metro Mod Meeting for the year.
Victoria and Earamichia are moving off the board of directors
so everyone made them letter blocks as a thank you.
Victoria got orange V's and Earamichia got purple E's
Aren't they yummy!!

Victoria has been such a great President for the past 4 years.
And Earamicha as Secretary has been amazing with all of her knowledge.
BUT, they aren't going anywhere!  Right girls?
Hehe.
Sorry E, I didn't get a picture of you.

We played a little trick on Victoria too.
We pretended to silent auction a group quilt she loves
always intending to give it to her as a thank you.
Of course she was the highest bidder!
Hehe.
Look at that happy face!

You'll be able to see all the fabulous show and tell over here in a few days.
Have a great weekend!
