Baby it's cold outside!!

I love that song . . .

Yesterday I met a friend for a latte in town,

I hadn't tried out this new place even though it's been

around for quite a while.

Look at how beautiful this latte is!!

I wish my quilting looked this good! Express Neat . . . my new favorite place!

And it tasted as wonderful as it looked.

Today I am trying to tidy up my sewing room.



I have a lovely railing around the stair case in the attic
that seems to collect all my quilt tops.



The kid has mentioned on quite a few occasions that I need to make these tops

into finished quilts. "When are you going to finish these?" "You keep making tops."

Do you think she wants to steal them away? Hahaha.
She always wants my quilts.



She is of course right, I need to finish these quilts and either use them or find them homes!
This log cabin quilt has been hanging around for a few years.

It is too big for me to quilt myself and until recently I hadn't found a place

that I trusted to do my quilts.

That changed last fall when I asked Roxanne at the Quilter's Alley

do a quilt for me.

She did a wonderful job.

Roxanne has a great shop in Ridgefield with a fabulous inventory!



So today I pieced two backs for quilts I want to finish.

One, the log cabin, will go to Roxanne next week, and the other,

my Hard Candy quilt, I will do this week.



I just bought some wool batting to try on my Hard Candy quilt. It is light as a feather.
I can't wait to see how it handles and if it is easier than the Warm & Natural I usually use.

What batting do you prefer?

Here are the two quilt tops and the pieced backs.



There are still about seven other tops on my rail that need to be finished!

Slow and steady wins the race right?

Sunday Projects #9

Well . . . .

More cleaning than sewing today I'm afraid.

You know, the "new year" get the cob webs out

kind of cleaning . . .

I did get the UFO top put together.

And I pieced the back too.

All layered and basted waiting to be quilted!

I went to see a fabulous movie yesterday.

The King's Speech.

I highly recommend it. Colin Firth is dreamy.
The whole cast is wonderful.
Anthony Andrews has a small part, he is one of my faves.
I see many awards in their future.

UFO redux

I think I am going to call this quilt

Seam Ripper Madness!

I have used my seam ripper at least half as much as my sewing machine.

Well, not really, but it feels like it.

I'm fine with that. I think the seam ripper is one of my favorite tools.

The kid hates it when I make her use the seam ripper.

Hahahaha. I love to make her use the seam ripper!

So we left off with this magenta border, hated it!

I ripped it out and set about trying other fabrics

I went with this brown. A real surprise for me, but it works much better.
I'm thinking because I was auditioning it on my wood floors, I was leaning toward the brown.

There is quite a bit of brown in the other fabrics and I think it really lets the blocks
stand out and take the center stage.


For the corners, I used another brown from the kid's stash.
For a new quilter, the kid has a very nice stash!
Lucky for me, she is very generous.

I still have to sew all the componets together,
but I finally like how it looks.


I have all day tomorrow to sew!!!
I will finish this top and . . .

My Hard Candy Quilt is finally ready to be pieced!
I finished all those blocks today.

UFO's

I started to clean up my sewing room yesterday.

That is always a tricky thing because I get distracted

a hundred times and start working on old projects instead.

Who wants to pick thread out of the carpet anyway??

I found this unfinished project from about 6 or 7 years ago.

I put it aside when I lost steam and or love of it.

Sometimes you just need to put things aside . . .

Usually it doesn't take me 7 years to come back to it!

I kind of remember what it was supposed to be back then,

but of course, it will change now.

I finished up the blocks, diagonal string blocks.

And I put a border on it.

It is all dots and stripes fabric.

The colors are all over the map, but they seem to work together.

I had a lot of cut fabric strips left because I was sick of making the blocks,

so I decided to make some piano key borders.

I also wanted to make some corner stones to try to pull it together.

I hate these.

They are the same colors from the other fabric, but they just don't work.

I tried these corner stones instead,

and I like them much better.

Now I hate the magenta border. I'll be ripping that out tonight.

It still needs a lot of design work, and I'll be playing with this for the next few nights.
