Yeah! It's my turn to blog-hop today.
This is my first time participating in a blog hop,
and what a great one to cut my teeth on.
Our NYC Metro Mod Guild is hosting
this Double Wedding Ring Challenge.
EVERYONE is invited to join in and enter this contest.
No matter where you live or how you quilt!
Your entries must be of three layers and bound.
And as the new President of our NYC Metro Modern Guild,
I am one of the judges!
Here is a picture of the awe inspiring Victoria
and her best in show quilt, "Double Edged Love," from QuiltCon.
Now I have had the privilege of seeing this beauty
up close and personal and I can tell you it is the most
amazing quilt I have ever seen. If you ever get the chance to view it,
jump on it! The chance, not the quilt.
Now I'll show you a bit of what I did for my Double Wedding Ring. . . .
I have never been afraid of curved piecing,
and these templates make it so easy!
I started with a piece of made fabric from one of Victoria's swaps.
I was going to use the black and white fabrics for the center, but that went out the window.
I cut the arcs out of the made fabrics.
You could piece them with the templates or do a solid piece of fabric.
The sky's the limit here, and even then there are no limits!
I use lots of pins for the curves.
Here is my top.
I haven't layered and quilted it yet, but I'll show you that when I do.
So here is the giveaway!
You get the templates for making the Double Wedding Ring pattern,
5 fat quarters of NYC fabric,
and a pile of triangles leftover from my last quilt.
(I know, sneaky way to get rid of them!)
All you need to do is leave a comment and tell me
if and where you are traveling this summer.
Please make sure I can contact you by email.
I will pick a winner on Saturday the 20th at 5pm,
because . . . . .
I am leaving for Quilting By The Lake on Sunday!
A Thelma and Louise road trip with fabric instead of guns!
Hehe.
Here is a list of the bloggers to visit to see how they are approaching this challenge.
Good luck to everyone!

ReplyDeleteI will not be doing any traveling except gor the Minnesota quilt shop hop.
ReplyDeleteI love the scrappy wedding ring block.
ReplyDeleteno plans to go anywhere this summer
thanks for the chance to win too.
I get to go to my 1st retreat EVER in September. Will that count as "summer" traveling? The place is all of 60 miles away from home!
ReplyDeleteLove your arcs from the made fabric Lisa! Great start! We already took a trip to our homeland of Minnesota - great to see family and friends, so nostalgic. Your upcoming trip sounds like a dream come true! I've already ordered Kathy's new book that is coming out soon. I expect to see lots of pictures from your class!
ReplyDeleteLove your dwr, the red in the middle is great! I would love those templates! I have o real vacation plans this summer. Most likely just days at the beach at some point which is really just 20 min away and maybe a trip to PA at in there for a weekend.
ReplyDeleteOooh, Lisa...your DWR is gorgeous! I can't wait to see what you make at QBL! Have you cut your fabrics yet?
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this is a wonderful piece! The colors are so pretty. This summer I am traveling to the San Fransico area, both my daughters have moved up there in the last few months and we are missing them and their families so much.
ReplyDeleteNot traveling anywhere special, just what the spirit moves. Mostly local--and why not. We live at the shore.
ReplyDeleteI'm headed to the NC beaches where I'm going to spend lots of time quilting!
ReplyDeleteI've already been twice to the really big lake close to home, and in August we're hitting the road for Chicago and Shipshewana, Indiana, where I'm going to visit the huge flea market and Yoder's Department Store. thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love that made fabric! I've already been to Virginia and I will be going to Maryland next month to visit my daughter and granddaughter. Thank you for the chance to win the templates and fabric.
ReplyDeleteI went to Oregon last month to visit family and visited a couple of nice quilt shops in Ashland. I'm headed to Syracuse on Sunday to take Kathy's class. looking forward to meeting/seeing you there!
ReplyDeleteLaurie
No traveling for me...unless day trips count! Shipshewanna is an hour away and I try to get there at least once during the summer. Love your arcs of made fabric...totally cool!!
ReplyDeleteWe just spent a week in Puert Rico to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Other than that, we're planning a move for the end of summer, so no more traveling until then!
ReplyDeleteI'm heading to Cape May, NJ, doesn't feel like summer until i get my toes in the sand!
ReplyDeletePlanning on going to Lake Luzerne, NY.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to get to Minnesota to visit family. I like the scrappy arcs in your block.
ReplyDeletePlanning to go back my hometown at Ipoh, Malaysia for a family gathering.
ReplyDeleteNo plans for traveling this summer, just staying out of the South Carolina heat. I miss seeing you folks in classes in NYC!
ReplyDeleteLas Vegas. Are there quilting/fabric stores there? If so, I will find them!
ReplyDeleteWent to New York earlier this spring to visit family, my partner is headed for Alabama in August. Hopefully we can hit Kansas City for friends & fun together later in the fall.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win these templates! We are heading to Portland OR later in the summer.:)
ReplyDeleteI returned from a trip Italy in June. August, I head out for a weeklong workshop with Elizabeth Barton in Gatlinburg, TN. And just maybe I can squeeze in a trip to Portland, OR and Seattle to visit family and friends before the summer's end.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great summer!! I am not travelling this summer, well, as far as I know! Nothing planned, but we do have a wedding in Sept. so, if that counts!! But I love what you did with the blk!! Fun!! And that is what, for me, makes quiling - or the piecing, magical! Thanks for making magic! ;)
ReplyDeleteWe travel almost every weekend up to our cottage in the 1000 Islands. There is no place I would rather be! My husband has even suggested that I get another sewing machine to keep up there so I don't have to lug mine up there every weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI live in a very beautiful place (Hilo, Hawaii), so am happy to stay home most of the year. No travel until September, when I'm meeting up with lots of family at my sister's place in Idaho. She's also a quilter, so there will be lots of fabric talk happening, and probably some shopping, too.
ReplyDeleteLove your "made fabric" arcs... thanks for the chance to win a set of templates!
We're off to Cornwall (UK) for a week in September!
ReplyDeleteThanks for a great giveaway - I love the idea of using 'made' fabric for the arcs!
No trips planned this summer. Just me in my quilt studio on the weekend trying to use up my mountain of fabric.
ReplyDeleteI live in Greece, enough said, just kidding, ummm.. we don't really have any trip plans since it depends on business, but we might go to an island called Skopelos since my daughter's godmother is working there this summer, but we have not made any definite plans, and we have to go to Athens in September for some business stuff but we will act as tourist and eat at McDonalds and see the Acropolis.
ReplyDeleteI have already traveled for the summer - to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Lubbock, Texas and Austin, Texas. Who knows, I might just throw in another trip before going back to school in August.
ReplyDeleteneillna@yahoo.com
hopefully will be going to Oregon. Horses and quilting what could be more fun.
ReplyDeletei will be quilting because that's fun to me
ReplyDeleteIt's winter here so travel is anywhere there is warmth. Yesterday that would have been the patio in the back yard.
ReplyDeleteTravel this summer? YES! I actually went to a Judy Niemeyer quilt retreat this summer in Kalispell, Montana. LIFE CHANGING! It's been about 4 years since I've been "outside" (of Alaska) and it was a bit of a culture shock but great!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I switched jobs in April, so no summer holidays for this girl, So I would REALLY appreciate some Summer Love with the templates and fabric. Thanks so much for sharing...
ReplyDeleteWe are traveling in Canada this summer. We have seen the capital(Ottawa)and will be heading to historic Quebec city sometime soon.
ReplyDeleteBarb@Witsend
I have the templates already but I WANT YOUR FABRIC!! If I win, I'll re-give-away the templates on my own blog, ok?
ReplyDeleteyour DWR looks great. Have fun this weekend..
woops, I didn't even follow the directions.. I went to Greece this summer. You can see all the pictures on instagram (@jessica_alex). I'm working up a plan to teach an EPP retreat on an island in the Aegean next summer, wanna come?
ReplyDeleteSkyline Drive, VA, family in New England, friends in Ocean City MD, a wedding in Minnesota, the beach on Hatteras NC, and then Seattle for family and friends.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a challenge with lots of potential for innovation.
We left Florida for the NC mountains where we are now!! Would love to try these rulers.
ReplyDeleteChicago, Pensacola, NYC, Cape Cod & Anchorage!
ReplyDeleteI'm not planning a trip until this fall when I am coming to NYC for Quilters Take Manhatten!
ReplyDeleteWe have been to Duluth, MN (great hiking and beautiful waterfalls), I went to Seattle for a week for work and am looking forward to a class with Bonnie Hunter and Mickey Depre in North Carolina. I was lucky enough to see Victoria's trunk show just a few weeks ago and was inspired to come up with my own version of DWR.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I do day trips on our scooters. It is a nice chance to catch a breeze with all this hot and humid weather in Wisconsin. Loving the DWR blog tour and cannot wait to see the entries. If I won a set of templates I might just have to make my own quilt to enter.
ReplyDeleteTraveled to Lopez Island, WA in June for a workshop with Gwen Marston and later in June to Waunakee, WI for a 1 day workshop with Victoria. Two weeks in September in Elk Rapids, MI for Gwen's 30th annual (and last) BIQR. DWR would be a challenge for me but with templates, it will be much easier.
ReplyDeleteLove to see what you are doing on the "right" coast. On the "left" coast, it has been a fabulous summer with lots of sunshine. I live near Portland, Oregon and have traveled to Northern California to see grandchildren and to Sisters, Oregon for the famous Outdoor Quilt Show. Kathy Doughty taught there and we saw her at Picnic in the Park. What a highlight. Have fun all of you with Kathy!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful block, so inspiring! I'm heading off for a week with my family, brother's family and parents to the coast of England. Usually that would be a wet and windy (but still fun and relaxing) trip, but this year some bright yellow thing has appeared in the sky, noone is really sure what it is!
ReplyDeleteOoh, you make it sound good! (And I do not have those rulers!) Have fun on your trip -- I'm already back from mine. I went to Chicago for a downtown Buddhist wedding and out to Montana/northern Idaho/North Dakota for bison watching and family visits. Perhaps there's still time for some destination quilt shop hopping...
ReplyDeleteI just returned from a cruise in Alaska, so my traveling this Summer is finished. Since I am at home now and Texas is really humid and hot, I plan to stay inside playing with my fabric stash until October. Learning a new pattern with a new set of templates would be a great Summer project.
ReplyDeleteI am leaving swampy Florida for the mountains of New Hampshire the first week in August--looking forward to getting started with a DWR quilt when I return!
ReplyDeleteWe live in Florida and are unable to take our little Airstream camping to Florida State parks during the nice weather winter months (because the campgrounds are FULL of snowbirds), so we get to spend hot, muggy summers traveling around our home state! There is so much beauty here and I'm always amazed at the wonderful places that are so close to home!
ReplyDeleteJust got back from a trip to the CA and OR coast in our camper trailer. We were able to beat the heat and get away from all the allergens that were making me miserable in NM. Returned to cooler temps and some much needed rain! Now back to the studio. Would love to win the templates and your wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI think we may get a bit more vacation time in Massachusetts, but nothing big planned this year. This challenge would be a great way to spend my free time :-)
ReplyDeleteWe went on a cruise last September, so if we go anywhere this year, it'll be a long weekend somewhere close like Door County to Lake Michigan. Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteI'm traveling into my sewing room daily to sew! That's about as far as I'm going - saving for a trip to Hawaii in the spring!
ReplyDeleteThis summer's big traveling plan is relocating our lives to another country..epps. The big move is happening next month and I'm excited and nervous all rolled into one. A hand sewing DWR will be a great way to calm the nerves in an otherwise chaotic summer!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using scraps to make the fabric for my wedding ring entry. I'll not be going far this summer - just visiting grandkids in the nearby area. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick beach trip to Ocean City MD area for a few days. Have to see if there are any quilt shops there.
ReplyDeleteNo travel for me on my time off work. I'm a homebody and will be spending my vacation next week camping in the back yard out here in the boondocks with the grandkids.
ReplyDeleteI would love to get the template and try isnout
ReplyDeleteWe are doing a lot of day trips this summer. Mainly exploring the local area.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win.
No travel plans this summer but maybe in the fall...a shop hop with friends up to Maine and perhaps a visit to see my daughter in Idaho and spend time at the Jackson Hole Quilt Festival.
ReplyDeletethanks for the opportunity to win these templates.
Lots of little road trips accompanying hubby on business but no real vacation. We try to take in a site or to and find great food. I take my quilters travel companion in case we have time to shop (and we usually do)
ReplyDeleteI hope to travel to the mountains this summer.
ReplyDeletetrying to do a bit of stay-cation this summer since I happen to live in a tourist town but am excited about a road trip in January to Palm Springs for a workshop with Heather Ross and friends. I do love scrappy so your version is top notch!
ReplyDeleteHELLO! NOW WE'RE NOT TRAVELING ANY PLACE THIS SUMMER,BUT WILL BE ENJOYING OUR FRIENDS+NEIGHBORS AROUND US!THANKS FOR SHARING!
ReplyDeletemsstitcher1948@yahoo.com
Lisa, What beautiful pieced curves- I would not of thought of piecing and then cutting the curves out of the pieced fabric. Such a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win the rulers- they would be a wonderful asset when creating this quilt.
Regards from Alberta, Canada,
Anna
My husband and I just got home from a trip to San Diego. We lived there more than 30 years ago when my husband was in the Navy and we have always wanted to visit. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteSadly I am not doing any traveling this summer...but I am having a wonderful summer at home - yay for the "stay-cation!"
ReplyDeleteWent to the BEACH.. love your mermaid as always
ReplyDeleteGreat looking DWR. I love Victoria's, too; she is awesome! Not doing much traveling. We like to bicycle and take mini-vacations around the area. Don't drive much more than about 3.5 or 4 hours. There a lots of trails in that space and we have many options for biking.
ReplyDeleteNot that i need the templates..but hey...I am traveling with you my dear on Sunday morning...wooo hoooo....smooches been to cooperstown, will be in arizona...and hope to hit the caribbean sea before i head to my annual golf school labor day weekend.

ReplyDeleteI love double wedding ring quilts but not been game to make one yet. I like the single piece arcs because you can use them to showcase gorgeous fabrics. BUT having seen your double wedding ring block, all I can say is yes, yes, YES! Love it!
ReplyDeleteSummer is still 6 months away down under so while you are all enjoying summer, I will be hibernating in my studio with my quilts and my computer (and probably my cat too).
We will be traveling 800 miles to visit our son, his wife and grandkids.
ReplyDeleteI haven´t travelled this summer, because my brother and his family from USA visited me here in Germany. We had a great time in the very north of Germany .
ReplyDeleteSaskia
We are going no where this summer, my daughter is getting married in our back yard in 2 months so lots of preparation in progress and the interest in DWR. I have avoided sewing curved until now but I am taking the plunge and making them a quilt with a modern twist.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I are going to Niagra Falls when our tobacco crop is in the house. I am so looking forward to that.
ReplyDeleteIn the next 3 weeks I am going on a 2 week trip with a friend to take my granddaughter home to Alabama and visit with my children for 2 weeks... and then by way of a friend in Mississippi to stay a couple of nights before we return home. I bet my hubby will be glad to see me pull back in. lol
We spent the 4th of July in the upper peninsula of Michigan. The piney woods and Lake Michigan were so refreshing. Now I am home and ready to try a DWR challenge. Thanks so much for the chance to win templates and more!
ReplyDeleteNo traveling for me this summer:( maybe next year.
ReplyDeleteNo traveling for me except hopefully to MQX later this year.
